This Santa Fe, NM-based position is responsible for supporting TPL programs and projects for a nationwide parks and land conservation organization. The GIS department supports organizational work for 30+ offices working in partnership with the private and public sectors on land conservation operations.
 
The position is responsible for providing vision, creativity and innovation in executing all TPL GIS web applications over the entire project life cycle including scoping, design, development, testing, deployment and project management.  This includes managing teams that may include a mix of staff and consultants that will play a key role in design and development of GIS web app development where we don’t have those skillsets on staff. The position requires strong project management and technical expertise in Internet and GIS technologies, systems, and development methodologies. Some national travel required.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The GIS Senior Web Manager will be responsible for the following areas of service in a team environment and will be required to serve in other capacities to the team as needed:

  • Scope new web GIS application development projects to the task level including the development of wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to demonstrate concepts and identify required resources for completion
  • Manage internal and external client relationships and ensure high satisfaction for all services provided

Technical

  • Identify and manage teams that consist of staff and consultants to assist with project execution and specific technical tasks
  • Develop and maintain client ESRI ArcGIS web applications and services with JavaScript, HTML, web scripting and SQL programming
  • Administer and maintain ArcGIS for Server platform
  • Utilize ESRI's ArcGIS client and server software applications to publish and consume web services, sites and geospatial analytical tools and manage and execute multiple, simultaneous web GIS application projects and insure client satisfaction
  • Develop mash-ups with other web technologies
  • Manage GIS databases and services to support web mapping applications
  • Manage and configure Microsoft IIS web server
  • Provide timely reporting on all ongoing projects to GIS Technical Manager and National GIS Director
  • Create and maintain technical specifications for web-based products and services
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of Internet and web GIS technologies, standards, and trends
  • Support and guide integration with ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and ArcGIS Portal

 
In addition to the above technical functions, this position will:

  • Convey complex, technical project components to non-technical/non-GIS staff and partners
  • Contribute to the development of GIS program standards, systems and protocol for workflow, system design, implementation, management and quality control standards
  • Contribute to the use and maintenance of the GIS database and other information retrieval systems to help track program work
  • Co-create creative GIS solutions for use of internal staff and external partners
  • Co-create the development of outreach materials including factsheets, website content, slide shows and exhibit materials
  • Works with internal GIS team to support and track web app tasks for GIS-related projects across the organization
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor

 
Highly Desirable Skills

Primary Skills Required:

  • Technical Project Management
  • Expertise in online mapping and data visualization
  • Web GIS concepts and technologies
  • Management of, and publishing to, ESRI Suite of ArcGIS Server Services
  • JavaScript, HTML5, and ESRI JavaScript API
  • Budget development and tracking
  • Experience creating modern web experiences using Bootstrap, Dojo, and other modern HTML\CSS\JavaScript frameworks
  • UX (user interface) design
  • Graphic\Web Design
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator, InDesign, or comparable tools.

 
Additional Skills:

  • Python, AJAX, PHP, Java and other server side technologies
  • SQL Server setup and administration
  • ArcGIS Online administration

 
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree required in geography, GIS, environmental sciences, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive GIS\web technologies experience
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive project management experience
  • Excellent oral, written communication skills and analytical skills
  • Mastery of personal computer concepts and software applications, particularly Excel, Access, Power Point, database applications and other graphics programs
  • Attention to detail, organization, diligence and commitment to excellence
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure on multiple projects
  • Ability to self-manage and continuously adjust priorities as required to meet project and client needs
  • Ability to work on complex assignments exercising good judgment and taking initiative with little supervision
  • Passion and ability to learn about and master evolving GIS and web technologies
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize GIS resources available to GIS professionals
