2nd Annual UA GIS Career Day 3/6

The Master's of Science in Geographic Information Systems Technology program is hosting the 2nd Annual UA GIS Career Day March 6th.  The event will be held in the University of Arizona's Student Union (South Ballroom, 3rd floor).

Learn how a variety of organizations use geographic information systems (GIS) and what practitioners and educators perceive are the desired qualifications to begin your career in the geospatial industry.  Meet with people individually about how to begin or advance your GIS career and what it take to get hired in this rapidly changing field.  This is a forum to learning and advancing knowledge about GIS amongst peers, colleagues, and newcomers.

11:00am - 3:00pm: Professional Networking Session

11:00am - 12:30pm: Resume and Mock Interview Workshop with Rudy Stricklan

12:30pm - 1:30pm: Panel Discussion on Best Practices and the State of the GIS Industry in Tucson

2:00pm - 3:00pm: ESRI Demonstration: Working with LiDAR and 3D data in ArcGIS 10.1 with David Vaillancourt, Solution Engineer, ESRI

ArcGIS 10.1 offers some interesting and useful new tools and applications for managing, visualizing, and serving 3D data. During this workshop, we’ll discuss working with Lidar data using the new LAS dataset, viewing and analyzing Lidar data in 2D and 3D. We also will work with ArcScene and CityEngine, the 3D application that enables you to create 3D urban landscapes, and show how those can be served as interactive 3D scenes online.
