Non-Degree Seeking Students

Minimum Requirement

 Non-Degree seeking graduate admission requires a U.S. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university/college or an equivalent degree from a comparable institute of higher education evaluated by the University of Arizona Graduate College. There is no GPA requirement for graduate Non-Degree seeking students.

Course Enrollment

Non-Degree students can enroll in graduate-level courses. Contact the School of Geography and Development to confirm availability of GIST courses. Apply to the appropriate campus: Main Campus for in-person courses, and UA Online for online courses.

Admission to Relevant Degree

Applicants who have completed a minimum of 6 graded graduate units in the major from the University of Arizona, with a GPA of 3.0 or better, are eligible for admission to the relevant degree program (e.g., MS-GIST) if recommended by the program. For MS-GIST and P-GIST, completing introductory courses GIST 601A and GIST 601B is recommended.

Transfer of Credits 

Up to 12 units of graduate credit earned in Non-Degree status can be applied toward a graduate degree once admitted to a degree program. For MS-GIST, completing GIST 601A, GIST 601B, GIST 602A, GIST 602B in Non-degree status is an option. Up to 6 units of graduate credit earned in Non-Degree status can be applied toward a graduate certificate once admitted to a certificate program. For the P-GIST certificate, completing GIST 601A and GIST 601B in Non-degree status is suggested.

Application Deadline

Submit Graduate Non-Degree applications no later than one week before classes begin to avoid delays and late registration penalties from the Bursar's Office.
