Georgia Davis Joins as Program Developer for BSGIST

Georgia Davis, known to the academic communities as a PhD candidate working in health geography, medial anthropology and communication studies, and to the Tucson community as the host of Arizona Public Media’s AZ Illustrated Nature and the producer for AZ Illustrated Science, has recently joined the School of Geography and Development as a Program Developer for the new online Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems Technologies (BS-GIST).

Davis is an Emmy-nominated television producer and reporter with more than a decade of experience covering politics, the environment, the court system, and social issues. She has also spent many years teaching undergraduate level classes and has developed online and hybrid courses in media and political geographies. With her extensive knowledge of media communication, Learner Centered Teaching techniques, Internet based learning technologies, and human geography, she is an ideal fit for building a multimedia-packed, online undergraduate program in GIST.

“This is a new and exciting phase in my life,” says Davis. “One that will require me to intersect my past experiences in media and classroom environments, with 21st century technologies and teaching philosophies, to create a valuable online learning experience for students.”

The BS-GIST program will be available to undergraduates through the University of Arizona’s online academy.  Students will be able to take online BS-GIST classes as early as Fall 2015.
