GIST Co-hosts Sustainable Development Community Workshop Series

 
The University of Arizona GIS Technology program, the UA Cooperative Extension, the City of Tucson Office of Conservation and Sustainable Development, and the Tucson Pima Arts Council are hosting a workshop series in August for the community, titled, Becoming an Effective Citizen Planner for Sustainable Development in Southern Arizona.  These workshops are geared towards citizens/residents interested in regional and local planning issues, especially as they pertain to sustainable development in southern Arizona.

Incorporating Sustainable Development into Plans – Moving from policy to action in terms of the best ideas around sustainable development. How Plan Tucson incorporates the city’s sustainability framework.

The Arts as a Resource for Cultivating Dynamic Spaces - Public art enhances the social, economic and environmental aspects of community life. Tapping into what is on the ground-culturally-can open doors when engaging a neighborhood for defining space. This workshop presents fresh research on the role of art in planning, offers some organizing tools to engage your community, describes how current funding for public art is used, and introduces a few heroes working with art and neighborhoods to cultivate dynamic spaces.
