Position Summary
We seek an Assistant Professor of Practice (non-tenure eligible) to advance the development and teaching of Master’s in Geographic Information Systems Technology that is delivered via UA online. The program offers a professional master’s degree in GIST, opening opportunities for careers in a variety of fields. Initially, the job is a full time, one fiscal year (12 month) appointment with the possibility of renewal. In the first year, development of a suite of on-line courses and their delivery will be critical.

Duties & Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to perform the following duties:
•Prepare and update materials for UA Online MS-GIST courses.
•Teach 6-7 courses/year in the UA Online GIST programs (primarily MS level, but also including the previously established BS-GIST program) 
•Carry out activities related to teaching, supervision, training and evaluation of graduate teaching assistants and adjunct instructors. 
•Oversee quality assurance for new online courses
•Advise students on their Master’s project and future careers. 
•Assist with the scheduling and curriculum development for online courses
•Attend one teaching conference per year to bring new good practices to SGD online instructors. 
•Other duties as may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Minimum Qualifications
•PhD in Geography or related fields with focus on GIST
•Advanced skills in GIS programming, web GIS, open source GIS, or other GIST programming
•Academic experience with online teaching and GIS
•Have strong visual, writing, editing, and communication skills in English and have the capacity to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies on camps and outside of the university
Preferred Qualifications
•Prior administrative experience in graduate level, professional degree programs
•Experience with the professional GIS community and university outreach
