Mapping Racist Covenants (MRC) Project Completion Event

There will be a Mapping Racist Covenants (MRC) Project Completion Event on Friday, August 25th from 5:30-7:00PM in the Sentinel Building on the campus of Tucson Housing & Community Development (HCD) (310 N. Commerce Park Loop). Funded by the 2022 Mellon Borderlands grant funding from the UA Library, the MRC project explores the geography of racist covenants across Tucson neighborhoods and subdivisions, focusing on those enacted between 1912-1968.

The event will feature our public unveiling of an interactive web-based map highlighting the geography of racist CCRs in Tucson that prevented African American, Asian, Mexican-American, Native American, Jewish individuals, and many other marginalized populations from living in certain neighborhoods, as well as a community panel discussion giving folks a chance to talk about their individual and family connections to racist housing covenants, the legacy of discriminatory housing practices, housing equity more broadly, and community next steps given the results of the MRC project.

This project features the hard work of a rockstar SGDE team, including GIST Professor Dr. Yoga Korgaonkar, Liz Wilshin (MS GIST) and Claire Holloway (UREG).

Both Zoom and in-person registration are available; please register at the link provided in the flyer, as in-person registration is limited to 100 guests.
