Melanie Meyers Colavito to Present at the Next Tucson Area GIS Cooperative Meeting

Melanie Meyers Colavito, PhD Candidate in the School of Geography and Development and Teaching Assistant for MS-GIST Program, will be speaking at the Tucson Area GIS Cooperative Meeting.

"From Shapefiles to Megawatts: Modeling Land Use Suitability for Renewable Energy Alternatives"

I will be talking about the development of GIS models to identify suitable locations for renewable energy facilities at the county level throughout Arizona. Our models are meant to help local jurisdictions identify potential areas for siting renewable energy facilities, with a focus on solar energy. This is part of the work that I did as a research assistant with Arizona Cooperative Extension, and we hope that our model results will be useful to communities, especially in rural Arizona, hoping to target renewable energy firms.

When: Friday, September 14th at 3pm.

Where: City-County Public Works Building, 201 N. Stone Av, Basement Conference Room C.
