UAGIST welcomes Dr. Matthew Marcus as our newest Assistant Professor of Practice!

Matthew is a physical geographer, who studies the degradation of tropical forests. Specifically, his research has focused on the degradation of a forested wetland ecosystem in the Peruvian Amazon. In his research he mainly uses remote sensing, but has also done qualitative work in the field, studying the human geography of the region of Loreto, Peru. He is finishing his doctoral work at Temple University, in Philadelphia, where he is originally from. Before returning to graduate school for his PhD, he completed an MS in applied geosciences, focusing on hydrogeology, and worked in environmental consulting for several years.
