Assistant Professor of Practice, Geographic Information Systems Technology (Online)

The School of Geography and Development at The University Arizona, is seeking an Assistant Professor of Practice (non-tenure eligible) to join our dynamic faculty and students and advance the development and instruction in our newly created Bachelor’s of Science in Geographic Information Systems Technology (BS-GIST) which is one of the fastest growing majors in the University of Arizona’s Online campus (http://gis.arizona.edu). This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly ranked geography school and be a faculty member at Arizona’s land-grant institution. The job is initially offered as a full time, academic year (9 month) appointment from January 2019 through May 2020. The post may then be renewed and the salary is dependent on experience. The distribution of effort will be 60% Teaching and 40% Service.
The successful applicant will be expected to perform the following duties: 1) teach 6 courses in an academic year in the UA Online BS GIST program. Courses might include introduction to map science, GIST programming, applied GIST, Open Source GIS, Web/Mobile GIS, geovisualization, and spatial statistics. 2) Update and prepare materials for UA Online BS-GIST courses. 3) Service activities will include refreshing course content, advising students, insuring course quality and evaluating student outcomes, overseeing final program projects, and BS-GIST program administration. 4) The Professor of Practice will also attend one teaching conference per year to inform faculty of the newest innovations and best practices in online instruction. Review of applications begin October 4, 2018.Please apply at https://uacareers.com/postings/32081
