In August of this year Caroline Patrick-Birdwell (MS GIST 2011) took a full-time faculty position with the Tohono O'odham Community College. The campus, based in Sells, Arizona, is a 2-year college that primarily serves students from the Tohono O'odham Nation as well as tribes from across the country. For the 2024 fall semester Caroline is teaching Introduction to Geospatial Technology, Introduction to GIS, and Cultural Geography. "I could not be happier with this teaching position," Caroline commented. "The environment is very supportive, and the students are very excited to have access to GIS courses." The College offers three different GIS pathways: an AA designed to transfer to a university, an AAS, designed for direct employment in the GIS field, and a certificate program.
