CITY OF TUCSON GIS TEAM WINS NATIONAL AWARD
The City of Tucson’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team recently received a Special Achievement in GIS award from Esri at the GIS mapping software company's annual conference in San Diego. The team includes a number of UA’s GIST alumni and faculty including:
• Dr. Peter Johnson, Adjunct Faculty MS-GIST 2011-present o IT Manager and GIS Supervisor, City of Tucson Information Technology
• Jennifer Psillas, MS-GIST Alumni 2011 and Adjunct Faculty 2016-17 o City of Tucson Park and Recreation
• Matt Berube, MS-GIST Alumni 2011, o City of Tucson Planning and Development
• Allen Scully, MS-GIST Alumni 2011 o City of Tucson Information Technology
• Jessica Fraver, MS-GIST Alumni 2014 o City of Tucson Information Technology
• Laura Mawhinney, MS-GIST Alumni 2015 o City of Tucson Water Department
The City’s GIS team, which has people from numerous departments, was recognized for taking a program that was focused on departmental needs and had numerous duplicative functions, to now having a community of professionals working together to support the goals and aspirations of the City through spatial data and analysis.
