Marion Constante, 2011 Alumna, Uses ArcGIS for Cultural and Historical Resources

Nov. 19, 2014

Marion Constante, a 2011 MS-GIST graduate, has been working with the Fairfax County Park Authority in Virginia as a GIS specialist since February 2013. Two weeks ago, together with the Colchester Archaeological Research Team, she launched the organization's first web mapping application, which is an interactive story map highlighting the cultural history of Old Colchester Park and Preserve. The application uses images, texts, and links to provide a virtual experience for visitors to explore the diverse history and stories through the material evidence left behind. Though Marion did the work creating the application, the team contributed the research, images, and text for the content. Please see the link to web map here.
On tour point six, you can access the 3D virtual Colchester web scene. The terrain was created from a digitized 1920's topo map, and Marion created a Python script tool for 3D buildings in ArcGIS.
This web map and scripting tool have been entered for the 2014 Fairfax County's GIS Day Excellence Awards on November 20th.
