The GIST admissions committee adheres to the University of Arizona Graduate College requirements as well as additional program requirements listed below. 

  • The MS-GIST program does not require the Graduate Records Exam (GRE).
  • We strongly encourage you to apply as soon as possible as there are a limited number of openings.
  • Your place in the program is not guaranteed until you have enrolled.
  • We will create a waiting list for additional applications on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Students need to show proof of immunization.

General Admission Requirements

 

University of Arizona Graduate College requirements:

  • minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 based on a 4.00 scale for undergraduate studies.
  • You are required to submit official transcripts from all previous colleges and universities attended.  Students can apply and be recommended for admittance using unofficial transcripts as long as they have the student's name and the University.  They are required to give official transcripts to the Graduate College within 30 days after beginning the program.

 

Master of Science in GIS Technology (MSGIST)

  • Graduate College Requirements
    • The MSGIST program does not require the Graduate Records Exam (GRE)
  • 2 letters of reference.  Your letters of reference should include:
    • How long and in what capacity they have known you
    • Your ability to work independently
    • Your suitability for graduate school
    • Your potential to succeed in graduate school and to make a contribution to your specific profession
  • Statement of purpose, 2 page double-spaced maximum. Your statement should include:
    • Summarize previous work/academic experience that motivated you to apply for a GIS graduate program
    • Elaborate on a topic you would like to explore using spatial technologies
    • One paragraph describing your technical background (computer proficiency is a prerequisite)
  • Current Resume

 

Professional Certificate in GIS Technology – Online (PGIST) admission requirements:

  • Graduate College Requirements
    • The PGIST Certificate does not require the Graduate Records Exam (GRE)
  • 1 letter of reference.  Your letters of reference should include:
    • How long and in what capacity they have known you
    • Your ability to work independently
    • Your suitability for graduate school
    • Your potential to succeed in graduate school and to make a contribution to your specific profession
  • Statement of purpose, 2 page double-spaced maximum. Your statement should include:
